A Physiotherapist plays an important role in supporting people with physical disability by providing assessment, therapy, and support to improve their physical abilities and overall well-being.

A “Physio” works with people with disabilities to help them increase their mobility, reduce pain, and improve their physical function. A Physio will assess your needs, strengths and challenges and develop an individualised plan to support you in achieving your goals.  The plan may include therapeutic intervention, the prescription of assistive technology, strategies and exercises to increase gross motor, mobility and strength as well as body positioning and posture.  The specific tasks of a Physio may include:

  • Conducting assessments to identify your physical abilities, needs and goals
  • Developing an individualised plan, including recommendations for exercises, equipment, and modifications to the environment to improve mobility, strength and function
  • Providing therapy to improve your physical abilities, such as strength, range of motion, balance, and coordination
  • Providing training and education to family members, caregivers, and support workers on how to support you to achieve your physical goals
  • Monitoring progress and adjusting your NDIS plan as needed to ensure you are receiving the appropriate support to reach your goals
  • Delivering therapy via hydrotherapy

Overall, a Physiotherapist’s role in the NDIS is to support people with disabilities to improve physical function, mobility, and overall well-being, and to help you achieve your goals in all aspects of their lives.
