The role of NDIS Support Coordination
1 March 2021

We offer Support Coordination services for NDIS participants in Brisbane and the greater Brisbane area. What is the purpose of Support Coordination and what role should your Support Coordinator play in supporting you on your NDIS journey?

What is Support Coordination?

There are three levels of Support Coordination that can be included in a participant’s NDIS plan. These are:

  • Support Connection
  • Support Coordination
  • Specialist Support Coordination

At InFocus, we are a registered NDIS providers of Support Coordination (Level 2), we don’t provide Specialist Support Coordination. All of our Support Coordinators have extensive knowledge of the NDIS and are university qualified professionals.

What is the difference between Support Coordination and Plan Management?

Support Coordination is a funded Capacity Building support. To receive funding for Support Coordination, the NDIA must deem the support reasonable and necessary.

Plan Management is one of the four ways that you can manage your NDIS plan. The other three are agency managed, self-managed or a combination of these. As an NDIS participant you can request to be plan managed at any time.

The benefits of Support Coordination

According to the NDIA, the benefits of support coordination include:

  • Supporting the implementation of your plan and working with you to identify options for all supports in the plan, including informal, mainstream and community, as well as funded supports
  • Strengthening and enhancing your ability to coordinate supports and participate in the community, reach decisions and develop agreements with support providers, and
  • Building capacity to achieve greater independence, to self-direct supports in the longer term and understand what flexibility and choice means with NDIS funding.
