How to choose your NDIS Plan Manager
17 September 2020

When requesting for your NDIS plan to be plan managed, in your planning meeting or your plan review, you do not have to decide who will manage your plan right away. This can be done at a later date.

It is worth noting too that if you are not currently plan managed and would like to switch to Plan Management, you can do this at any time. You don’t need to wait until your plan review. Read more about this process.

Once you have decided you would like to be plan managed, how do you choose the right Plan Manager? Here are some simple steps that might help.

Step 1 – Research

There are a few different ways that you can do your research to help you create a shortlist of potential Plan Managers:

  • Word of mouth is a great place to start, so ask friends and others in your network
  • Check out the NDIS list of registered Plan Management providers, keep in mind that all Plan Managers must be NDIS registered
  • Search on Google and check online reviews
  • Check out Plan Management providers websites and the support that they offer, is this aligned with what you are looking for?
  • Create a shortlist of around three or four Plan Management providers that you think will meet your needs

Step 2 – Narrow down

Once you’ve created your shortlist,  check out your potential Plan Manager’s social pages and what NDIS participants are saying about their service.  This might help you narrow your options down further, you may be left with two or three providers.

Step 3 – Ask the right questions

Contact the Plan Managers left on your list. Asking the right questions will provide a good indication of the quality and their service and whether they’re a good fit for you. Here’s some questions you can ask:

  1. How quickly will you pay my providers?
  2. Do you ask for my approval before you pay my providers?
  3. Do you provide regular financial reporting?
  4. Do you have an app so that I can keep track of payments and budgets?
  5. When I call do I get to speak to a real person?
  6. Can you offer advice on what I can and can’t claim?
  7. Can you help me to get the most out of my funding?
  8. Will you reimburse me for services that I pay for or will you only pay providers directly?
